AstraZeneca: EU approves lung cancer treatment
(CercleFinance.com) - AstraZeneca said on Tuesday that its Imfinzi drug has been approved in the European Union for the first-line treatment of adults with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer in combination with chemotherapy.
In a phase III trial, Imfinzi plus chemotherapy reduced the risk of death by 27% versus chemotherapy alone, with median survival of 13 months versus 10.3 months for chemotherapy alone.
Small cell lung cancer is a highly aggressive, fast-growing form of lung cancer that typically recurs and progresses rapidly despite initial response to chemotherapy.
