AstraZeneca: FDA grants orphan status to lung cancer drug

S. Food and Drug Administration granted orphan drug status to AstraZeneca's Imfinzi for the treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Small cell lung cancer constitutes about 15% of all lung cancer diagnoses, but is the most aggressive type of the disease with only 6% of patients alive after five years.
The orphan status is granted in the United States to drugs that treat diseases affecting fewer than 200,000 people.
