bp: plans UK's largest hydrogen project
(CercleFinance.com) - bp announced on Thursday that it plans to build a huge site in the UK dedicated to "blue" hydrogen, i.
e. produced from hydrocarbons but with capture and storage of the CO2 emitted.
Thanks to this large-scale project, the energy group says it wants to encourage the conversion of the natural gas industry to hydrogen and promote the process of greenhouse gas reduction in the Teesside region, a particularly polluting industrial area in the north-east of England where the site would be located.
bp says it expects a final investment decision on the project in early 2024, with production starting by 2027 at the latest.
Unlike 'green' hydrogen, which is produced from water, 'blue' hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels, but with immediate CO2 sequestration.
