bp: to jointly explore with Suez CO2 capture in the UK
(CercleFinance.com) - bp and French water and waste management group Suez have agreed to jointly explore the feasibility of the UK's first carbon capture and storage project from energy-from-waste, the companies said on Monday.
The "Net Zero Teesside" industrial hub plans to capture up to 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the equivalent to the annual energy use of over three million UK homes, bp and Suez said.
Under the project, Suez will develop a solution to capture the carbon emissions from one of four energy-from-waste facilities it operates in the Teesside area.
Once captured, the CO2 be transported and permanently stored by bp in a geological storage site beneath the North Sea.
