Valeo: unveils High Precision Positioning system
(CercleFinance.com) - At CES 2020 in Las Vegas, Valeo, Hexagon and Hyundai announce a new proprietary technology called HPP (for High-Precision Positioning) which is capable of pinpointing a vehicle's exact location while on the road - it is accurate to a centimetre.
This new system consists of applying a correction to the GPS signal received by the vehicle via a cellular network channel. The corrective action is determined by a network of fixed stations that know their absolute position and which are used as a permanent benchmark.
High precision positioning could help cities to improve traffic flows on their streets, facilitate the development of autonomous vehicles and display more accurate and user-friendly maps in onboard navigation systems.
