Suez: Schwarz authorised to acquire certain subsidiaries
(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Schwarz group has been authorised by the European Commission to acquire certain waste management companies belonging to the Suez group in Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Poland, the European body announced yesterday.
However, this authorisation will be conditional on the divestiture of Suez's light packaging sorting business in the Netherlands, in order to preserve effective competition on the plastic waste sorting market in the country, it said.
The Commission was concerned that the proposed acquisition, as initially notified, would significantly reduce the level of competition in the market for the sorting of light packaging in the Netherlands.
The waste management companies concerned, subsidiaries of the French Suez group, are active in the collection, sorting, treatment, recycling and disposal of household and commercial waste in Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Poland.
