Alstom: contract for West Coast Mainline in UK
(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom announces a seven-year contract worth approximately 755 million euros (642 million pounds) with Avanti West Coast, the new operator of the West Coast Mainline in the United Kingdom, for the renovation and maintenance of 56 Pendolino electric trains.
In addition to the 150 million euro modernisation program, the largest of its kind ever undertaken in the UK, Alstom will maintain trains until 2026, in addition to that of a new fleet of trains recently ordered from Hitachi.
The contract will create 100 highly qualified jobs, mainly based at Alstom's Technology Centre in Widnes, while ensuring that hundreds more in Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Oxley and Wembley, are maintained.
