Alstom: presents a freight locomotive for Azerbaijan
(CercleFinance.com) - The Alstom Group today presented the first Prima T8 AZ8A electric freight locomotive in Astana (Kazakhstan) for ADY (Azerbaijan Railways).
Forty of these locomotives are currently being built by Alstom's joint venture, EKZ, in Astana. The first AZ8A is part of a 2014 contract awarded to EKZ, covering a total of 50 locomotives, including ten Prima M4 AZ4A passenger locomotives.
With eight axles, Prima T8 is one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. This model is a two-section freight locomotive that can tow up to 9,000 tonnes and travel at 120 km/h, with continuous 8.8 megawatt power installed, Alstom said.
