Engie: commissions wind farm in Egypt

(CercleFinance.com) - Engie Afrique consortium announces that it has started the commercial operation of Egypt's first private wind farm.

The same consortium is preparing the next 500 MW wind project.

The Ras Ghareb Wind Energy SAE project company is owned by Engie (40%) and its consortium partners Toyota Tsusho Corporation/Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation (40%) and Orascom Construction (20%).

A 20-year power purchase agreement has been signed with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. Total investment costs amount to nearly 380 million dollars (c. 340 million euros).

The construction and commissioning of the 262.5 MW wind farm in Ras Ghareb, Egypt was completed 45 days ahead of schedule. The wind farm is now fully connected to the grid and is ready for commercial operation at maximum capacity, the group said.
