Renault: Carlos Ghosn still in prison

(CercleFinance.com) - It was expected: Carlos Ghosn's request for release on Tuesday, made through his lawyers, has been denied by the Japanese courts, according to the Japanese news agency Jiji.

The boss of the Renault group will therefore remain in prison - at least until 11 January - and, as it stands, it would be surprising to see him freed on this date.

Indeed, on 11 January, the custody of Mr. Ghosn, who is still officially in charge of Renault, will end. However, it is far from being ruled out that he will be charged again, or that the judge will decide to place him in detention prior to a trial, if he continues to mention, as at the public hearing on Tuesday, a risk of absconding and altering evidence.

Should this be the case, Carlos Ghosn will have to be patient: the trial is not planned - for at least another six months.
