Renault: Carlos Ghosn says he is 'falsely accused'

(CercleFinance.com) - The boss of the Renault group - who is still officially in charge, although who has been ousted from that of his position as leader Nissan and Mitsubishi - has claimed to be "falsely accused and unfairly detained" on his first appearance before a judge in Tokyo, almost two months after his unexpected arrest on suspicion of concealing income.

In English, Carlos Ghosn has said that he has dedicated two decades of his life to turning Nissan round and building the Alliance, during a hearing that attracted wide coverage by Japanese and international media.

The Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian leader said that he acted "with honor", "legally", and with "the knowledge and approval" of Nissan's directors, according to statements reported by the public television channel NHK.
Having denied covering personal losses by Nissan, adding that he is not guilty of a breach of trust, Carlos Ghosn, who appeared gaunt, handcuffed and with a rope around his waist, himself requested such a hearing, which lasted for about two hours.
