Casino: Carrefour denies merger talks
(CercleFinance.com) - Casino has said that a few days ago it was approached by Carrefour regarding a potential merger.
As a result, Casino's board of directors met on 23 September 2018.
Following this information, Carrefour has denied approaching Casino and is surprised that there are rumours that a merger proposal has been submitted to Casino's board of directors, as this does not exist.
Casino's board of directors also stated that it has unanimously reiterated its total confidence in Casino's value-creating strategy, based on a unique positioning. It has also noted obstacles - in France and Brazil - to the merger with Carrefour - particularly regarding competition and jobs. As such, it has unanimously decided not to act upon this approach.
The group has also observed that this approach has been made while the Casino share has been subject to coordinated speculative manipulations that have resulted in the share price falling, something that has not been seen for several months.
