Thales: electrical propulsion module set for 2019 launch

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space (a joint venture between Thales, a majority holder and Leonardo, a minority holder), announces that its first Spacebus Neo Xenon Propulsion System (XPS), dedicated to the Eutelsat KONNECT satellite and based on the Spacebus NEO platform, is "on track" for launch in 2019.

"This XPS module was presented today in the Space Propulsion Integration and Manufacturing Centre at Thales Belfast, opened in October 2016 after significant investment. The XPS module will be used to raise Eutelsat's KONNECT satellite from the orbit provided by the launch vehicle to the geostationary orbit and then to maintain its station in orbit for at least 15 years," Thales Alenia Space said.

This module is 1.8 metres high, 3.6 metres wide and will weigh 1.8 tonnes when fully fueled.
