Total: responds to accusations of 'greenwashing'

(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday Total hit back at a harsh report released by Reclaim Finance and Greenpeace, accusing the two NGOs of "inaccuracies" and "untruths".

In the document published at the end of last month, Reclaim Finance and Greenpeace France note that Total produced 447 units of fossil fuels last year, compared with only one unit of renewable energy.

The NGOs note that fossil fuels currently account for more than 99.7% of the French group's mix, an order of magnitude that they say will change very little over the 10 years that are left to make the transformations needed to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

In its press release, Total denies the accusations in three points and reiterates its ambition to achieve "net zero" by 2050, making it clear that the target covers all of its global activities, from production to the use of its energy products by its clients.

Above all, the listed company reminds us that any lack of sincerity in communications is likely to mislead investors and that the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) ensures compliance with the applicable rules in this area.
