Total: new Saft building in Poitiers
(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, Total's battery unit, indicates that it has laid the first stone in Poitiers for the future electrolyte (an essential component in the manufacture of batteries) production building, which represents an investment of nine million euros.
Inaugurated in 1964, the Poitiers site, which has a surface areas of 35,500 square metres, houses more than 660 staff. The construction of the new building, with a surface area of 1,800 square metres, and set to complete by 2020, will double the capacity to reach 1,000 tonnes per year.
This investment comes as a response to a high demand in the burgeoning market for smart computers and the IoT. The electrolyte produced by the sites based in Germany and Israel to supply the Saft production sites in China and England will be relocated to France.
