Safran: LEAP-1A engines ordered by Qatar Airways
(CercleFinance.com) - Safran announces that Qatar Airways has placed an order for CFM International's LEAP-1A engines to equip its new fleet of 50 Airbus A321neo aircraft.
This is the largest order of A321neo recorded to date in the Middle East.
The Qatari company has also signed an hourly maintenance contract with CFM covering its entire fleet of LEAP-1A engines, including spare engines, for a total combined value valued of 4 billion dollars at catalogue prices.
As a CFM customer (a 50/50 joint venture between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines) since 2015, Qatar Airways currently operates a fleet of eight A320ceo aircraft equipped with CFM56-5B. The delivery of its first A321neo equipped with LEAP-1A engines is scheduled for 2020.
