Air France-KLM: potentially interested in Air India
(CercleFinance.com) - Although IndiGo, the largest Indian airline, is currently the only company to have officially shown any interest, the Indian press has also mentioned a joint interest from Air France-KLM, Delta and Jet Airways, which have joined forces in a consortium, to take over Air India.
The national airline, which has continued to lose market share, with the emergence of new private airlines, is about to announce a loss of between 7 billion and 8 billion dollars, according to different sources. The Indian government also wants to sell its stake.
Air France-KLM, whose share closed up 1.54% yesterday, but which has not responded to such claims, sealed an alliance with Delta and Jet Airlines several months ago. Taking over Air India, which has a fleet of 118 aircraft, would substantially strengthen the trio's fleet.
