Nokia: launches 5G trial at manufacturing sites
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia is launching joint field trials using 5G with Japan's NTT Docomo and Omron, citing increasing demand for wireless communications at manufacturing sites.
The three companies have agreed to conduct the trials at their plants and other production sites. Nokia will provide the 5G technology and Omron the factory automation equipment, while NTT Docomo will run the trial.
The project will aim to establish the feasibility of the concept of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) automatically conveying components to the exact spot where they are required on the production line.
The trial will also leverage 5G connectivity for real-time coaching using AI/IoT, the companies said.
