Nokia: to collaborate with Intel and Verizon on RAN networks
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia will collaborate with US chipmaker Intel and telecom operator Verizon on new cloud Radio Access Network (RAN) architectures for 4G, 5G and IoT technologies in the cloud, the three companies said on Monday.
The first milestone of this software defined network has been a successful trial in Oklahoma City, using Verizon's existing cloud infrastructure, Nokia's base station servers and Intel's Xeon processors, the companies said.
Virtualization will help Verizon to develop a high-performance network that will enable it to keep up with traffic demands.
