Nokia: several announcements at MWC in Barcelona
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia made several announcements on Monday at the opening of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the most important of which is the acquisition of US software company Unium.
Nokia today announced plans to acquire the Seattle-based firm that specializes in solving complex wireless networking problems for use in residential Wi-Fi applications.
The acquisition of Unium, a privately held company that was founded in 2002, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
At the Mobile World Congress, Nokia also said it was working with Facebook to accelerate the adoption of 60 GHz fixed wireless access technologies.
At the same time, Nokia will deploy 5G for Vodafone Italy's 5G trial in Milan, while exploring the use of 5G with China Mobile to drive new business opportunities for industries.
MWC, which is the world's largest gathering for the mobile industry, is being held until 1 March.
