Nokia: to replace network for Californian utility.

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia said it has won a contract with a Californian utility company to supply a critical communications network.

The network gear maker is going to provide the advanced communications network to the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) in Northern California to support the group's hydro-electric power generation and water distribution services.

Under the agreement, Nokia will replace PCWA's aging communications infrastructure with a modern Internet Protocol/Multi-protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) network.

PCWA is the primary water resource agency for Placer County, a 1500-square mile area between the Sacramento Valley and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

The company is responsible for the provision of drinking water to over 200,000 customers, and operates five hydroelectric plants.
