IAG: fined by Britain's ICO after theft of customer data

(CercleFinance.com) - International Airlines Group has been fined 183.
4 million pounds (about 200 million euros) after the theft of customer data from British Airways' website in 2018.

In a statement, the airline group - formed by the merger of British Airways and Iberia - said it is "surprised" and "disappointed" by the penalty that was notified by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

"British Airways responded quickly to a criminal act to steal customers' data. We have found no evidence of fraud/fraudulent activity on accounts linked to the theft," it said in the press release.

IAG said it intends to take steps to defend its position, including making an appeal.

The fine represents around 1.5% of British Airways' turnover for the financial year 2017.

IAG shares were down 1% this morning in London.
