Santander: ex-Goldman Sachs partner named on board

(CercleFinance.com) - Banco Santander named a former Goldman Sachs partner, R.
Martin Chavez, to its board as an independent director.

Chavez, a US citizen, has worked for 20 years at Goldman Sachs, where he has been a partner since 2006. He also founded a number of tech companies in Silicon Valley and New York, the Spanish banking giant added.

His appointment will be submitted for approval at the general shareholders meeting that will likely take place in October 2020, it said.

Santander also announced that Sebastian Gunningham, a former executive at Amazon and Apple, will be appointed chairman of its consumer finance arm, as well as vice chairman of the online bank Openbank.

Finally, Francisco D'Souza - the former CEO of IT operations company Cognizant - will become the group's strategic advisor for the development of Santander Global Platform (SGP), its payments and digital banking unit.
