Commerzbank: merger talks with Deutsche Bank confirmed
(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Deutsche Bank confirmed on Sunday that it is in merger talks with its German peer Commerzbank after months of rumours regarding a potential deal.
"I have consistently stressed that consolidation in the German and European banking sector is an important topic for us," said Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing.
According to the hallowed phrase, "there is no certainty that any transaction will occur," Deutsche Bank said in a brief statement.
However, both German banks' share prices reacted positively to the news. Deutsche Bank shares were up 3.8% this morning, while Commerzbank shares jumped by over 6%.
