Bayer: to open smart greenhouse in Arizona

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer said on Wednesday that it has opened a new smart, automated greenhouse facility in Arizona, the first of its kind for the German crop protection company.

The facility, worth approximately 100 million dollars, will serve as a product design center for corn, the only crop to be grown there, the drugs and pesticides group said.

The plant will capitalize on innovation in proprietary seed chipping, advanced marker technology, automation and data science, the group said.

The greenhouse - which occupies 300,000 square feet of growing space - has been designed for the sustainable use of inputs throughout the research process, while water for crops will be reused.
