Bayer: approval for liver cancer drug in Japan.

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer said on Monday that Japanese authorities have approved its oncologic drug Stivarga for second-line treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has granted marketing authorisation for Stivarga tablets for the second-line treatment of patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma who have progressed, after treatment with cancer chemotherapy.

Bayer said that the number of patients suffering from liver cancer is continuing to increase in Japan. Since 1990, the disease's annual mortality rate has increased by over 50%.
