Lufthansa: 22,000 redundancies ahead

(CercleFinance.com) - Lufthansa announced on Monday that it had informed the representatives of its trade unions of its intention to lay off a total of 22.
000 full-time staff, half of whom will be in Germany.

The German air carrier - which highlights the "serious consequences" of the coronavirus crisis on its sector - explains that these restructuring measures will affect all its subsidiaries.

In detail, 5,000 jobs will be destroyed at its flagship airline, including 600 pilots, 2,600 flight crew staff and 1,500 ground staff positions.

At the group level, some 1,400 redundancies will be made at its headquarters and in administrative departments.

At Lufthansa Technik, its maintenance subsidiary, 4,500 positions are affected by these measures, including 2,500 in Germany.

Finally, LSG Group - its catering division - alone will have to lay off 8,300 staff.
