VW: names new CEO for the Volkswagen brand
(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen Group has decided to reassign responsibilities for the management of its flagship brand, alongside with the company as a whole, the German auto giant said late on Monday.
From 1 July, the Volkswagen core brand will be led by the brand's previous COO, Ralf Brandstätter, meaning that group CEO Herbert Diess - who had previously been responsible for both functions - will receive "greater leeway" for his tasks as the company's boss.
The objective is to place a stronger focus on the tasks at the top level of the group and the brand in the current transformation phase of the automotive industry, VW said.
Volkswagen also announced that Stefan Sommer - who had been appointed as a member of the board of management with responsibility for components and procurement last year - is leaving the company "by amicable and mutual agreement."
