Siemens: to upgrade Sydney's rail network

(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens Mobility today announced that it has been awarded two contracts worth approximately 190 million Australian dollars (about 125 million euros) with the New South Wales (NSW) Government in Australia to significantly upgrade the Sydney metropolitan rail network, one of the busiest networks in the Southern Hemisphere.

The contract includes the introduction of a new Traffic Management System (TMS) and the transition from conventional train network signalling to an ETCS-L2 digital train control system.

The systems are expected to be available for operation in 2023 and will improve the overall efficiency and capacity of the rail network, Siemens Mobility said.
