Daimler: publishes Q1 sales figures

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler has announced that Mercedes-Benz Cars (Mercedes Benz + smart) sold 590,999 passenger cars in the first quarter of 2021, up 22.
3% y-o-y.

Mercedes-Benz Vans also performed well, with 76,328 vehicles sold over the first three months of the year, up 18.2%.

Sales growth was particularly driven by dynamic demand in China (+60.1%) and the US (+15.5%), as well as by strong demand for plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles, the German car maker said.

In Europe, one in four cars sold by Mercedes-Benz Cars was electrified (xEV). Furthermore, plug-in hybrids and all-electric cars accounted for around 10% of total sales in the first quarter.

While the launches of the EQS, EQB and EQE models are scheduled for this year, Mercedes-Benz still plans to expand its range by offering a total of about 30 plug-in hybrid variants by the end of 2021.

However, the global shortage of certain semiconductor components affected deliveries in Q1 and will continue to affect sales in Q2, the carmaker warns.
