BMW: launches production for electric drive train

(CercleFinance.com) - BMW announced on Thursday the start to the production phase of its new electric drive train in Dingolfing, the carmaker's largest manufacturing plant in Europe.

The integrated BMW e-drive combines an electric motor with transmission and power electronics, the German carmaker said in a statement.

The e-drive is expected to be used for the first time in the new BMW iX3, which will begin being produced in China in late summer.

By 2022, in Dingolfing alone, BMW should be able to produce e-drives for over half a million electrified vehicles per year.

BMW said that it expects a quarter of its vehicles sold in Europe to have an electric drive train by 2021; a third in 2025 and even half in 2030.
