BMW: sets high aims in electrified vehicles

(CercleFinance.com) - BMW aims to have a total of one million electrified vehicles on the roads by the end of 2021, the German carmaker said on Tuesday.

The announcement - made today by CEO Oliver Zipse at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt - comes as the Munich-based auto group steps up efforts to accelerate the launch of electric vehicles.

The 25 electrified models previously announced for 2025 will now be available two years ahead of schedule, in 2023, BMW said.

More than half of these 25 models will be fully electric, it added.

BMW forecasts that customer demand should ensure that over 50% of new vehicle registrations in China's premium segment will be pure battery-electric vehicles in 2030.

The figure for Europe - and the US - should only be about half that number.

In Norway, three quarters of new BMW Group vehicles sold have an electrified drive train.
