BMW: to develop automated driving technologies with Daimler
(CercleFinance.com) - BMW and Daimler will jointly develop next-generation technologies for automated driving, the car makers said on Thursday.
Both companies said that they have signed a memorandum of understanding, which first focuses on automated driving on motorways.
BMW and Daimler also plan to discuss the possibility of extending their collaboration to cover higher levels of automation, for example in urban areas.
The technology is expected to be ready for marketing by the mid-2020s, they said.
Last week BMW and Daimler launched a joint venture aiming to invest over 1 billion euros in mobility services, such as car-sharing, ride-hailing, and charging.
