BMW: working with Swiss Re on new car insurance concept
(CercleFinance.com) - BMW is working with Swiss Re to develop a specific insurance rating that would take into account the integration of driver safety assistance systems, the companies said on Friday.
The firms said they have already developed an algorithm that is capable of representing the effects of driver assistance systems on the safety of BMW vehicles, facilitating the calculation of an individual insurance premium.
"Our customers will benefit twice: from the added safety and convenience of intelligent assistance systems and from a possible reduction in their insurance payments," BMW said in a statement.
The move comes as more and more safety-relevant driver assistance systems are being used into BMW vehicles.
