ABB: order from Switzerland's Stradler
(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss engineering group ABB announced on Friday that it had won an order from Swiss railway manufacturer Stadler to supply "innovative" battery and traction systems.

The agreement covers high-power on-board energy storage systems, with lithium-ion batteries that enable trains to operate on non-electrified sections without the use of diesel engines.
The engineering group says that the equipment is for Nahverkehrsverbund Schleswig-Holstein, a train operator based in northern Germany, and Berlin's public transport company Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
ABB notes that its technology reduces the cost and need for electrification while helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport industry.
