ABB: automated solutions adopted by Nestlé
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB has announced that its new robot palletising solution has improved pallet loading productivity by 53% at Nestlé's chocolate manufacturing facility in Brazil.
ABB's new compact robotic palletising cell, which has been jointly developed with Nestlé, includes an ABB IRB 660 robot that moves boxes from the end of the production line to the pallet, stacking them accurately, while SafeMove technology ensures safe intermittent collaboration between the robot and workers.
SafeMove enables a robot's speed, movement and position to be limited when a human approach is detected, allowing large industrial robots to work alongside people without fences, safety switches, doors or locks, ABB says.
The new installation has been so successful that it will be adopted in three other Nestlé factories in Brazil, with 13 palletising cells already in operation and further installations and commissioning in progress, ABB said. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
However, for the record, both shares are down slightly at lunchtime on Wednesday.
