ABB: wins order for German offshore wind farms
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB has won an order worth "triple digit million-euro" to build a transmission system for three wind farms in Germany's North Sea, the Swiss company said on Friday.
The engineering group has been awarded an order to design the high voltage direct current (HVDC) system for the offshore wind connection project DolWin5, which is located some 100 km off the German coast, it said.
The project - which is part of Germany's plans to generate 65% of its power from renewable sources by 2030 - will deliver 900 megawatts of zero-carbon electricity - enough to power around 1 million homes.
The wind farms are set to be completed in 2024.
