Roche: FDA approves preventive treatment for influenza
(CercleFinance.com) - Switzerland's Roche said on Tuesday that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its supplemental new drug application for Xofluza as a treatment to prevent influenza following contact with an infected person.
In a phase III study, the proportion of household members 12 years of age and older who developed influenza was 1% in participants treated with Xofluza - a drug that is already FDA-approved to treat acute uncomplicated influenza - compared to 13% in the placebo-treated group, the drugmaker said.
The move comes as the US is about to enter the flu season - which millions of people suffer from every year - in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
