Roche: launches new HIV-1/HIV-2 qualitative test.
(CercleFinance.com) - Roche on Wednesday launched a fully automated CE marked HIV-1/HIV-2 qualitative diagnostic test based on its cobas 6800/8800 systems.
The Swiss pharmaceutical company announced the commercial availability of the test, which provides healthcare professionals with the ability to differentiate HIV-1 from HIV-2 and allows them to improve treatment options based on subtype infections.
The new HIV-1/HIV-2 qualitative test is validated for dried blood spot (DBS) as a sample type, enabling access to testing in rural areas.
Current testing methods, which rely on the ability to detect an antibody response, may leave an infected person undiagnosed between two and four weeks, Roche said.
