AB InBev: Q3 results exceed expectations

(CercleFinance.com) - Anheuser-Busch InBev has presented better-than-expected quarterly accounts on Thursday, thanks to strong sales growth in South America and particularly Brazil.

The brewer's gross operating income (EBITDA) slipped just 0.8% to 4.9 billion dollars in Q3, while its "normalised" operating profit (EBIT) declined by 2.2% to 3.7 billion dollars.

The latter performance significantly exceeded the consensus of 3.3 billion dollars.

The brewer of the Budweiser, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe brands reported sales of 146.6 million hectolitres of beer and soft drinks in the past quarter, corresponding to organic growth of 1.9%.

In particular, sales in South America rose by almost 15% in organic terms over the period, with a jump in volumes of over 25% in Brazil, a phenomenon that the group attributes to a successful sales strategy.

The AB InBev share rose by almost 1.5% after these figures, one of the best performances of the pan-European Euro STOXX 50 index on Thursday morning.
