Ford: restart of North American plants postponed

(CercleFinance.com) - Ford is delaying the restart of production at its North American plants to help protect the health and safety of its workers, the US carmaker said on Tuesday.

The company had been aiming to restart production on 6 April at its Mexican plant of Hermosillo and on 14 April at several key US plants.

Restart dates have been further postponed, with specific dates set to be announced later, it added.

Ford sait it is currently working with unions - especially the UAW - on initiatives to keep its workforce safe, including social distancing guidelines, and requiring workers to self-certify daily that they are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

But the auto giant said on Monday that it planned to produce 50,000 ventilators in Michigan over the next 100 days in a partnership with GE Healthcare.
