USA: slight rise in weekly jobless claims
(CercleFinance.com) - The Labor Department announced that 230,000 new U.
S. jobless claims were registered for the week ending September 2, up by 2,000 on the previous week (when the figure was revised upwards from 227,000 to 228,000).
The four-week moving average - more representative of the underlying trend - came in at 230,750, up anecdotally by 500 from one week to the next.
Finally, the number of people receiving regular benefits rose by 5,000 to 1,850,000 during the week of August 26, the most recent period available for this statistic.
