Apple: taken over by Huawei on smartphone market

(CercleFinance.com) - This is a first since 2010: Apple is neither first nor second in the smartphone market in terms of market share, according to the sector's quarterly ranking by the consulting firm IDC.


The Apple brand has been beaten taken over the ambitious Chinese giant, Huawei, which, according to IDC, delivered 54.2 million smartphones in the second quarter, against 41.3 million for Apple. Huawei thus ranks second, behind Samsung (which itself, despite a good lead, has experienced a certain slowdown in its shipments), with a market share of 15.8%.

Huawei's continued growth is indeed impressive, as is its ability to penetrate markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown about, said Ryan Reith, vice president of the IDC Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers program.
