Alfa Laval: earnings rise, third-quarter demand seen up

(CercleFinance.com) - Swedish engineering group Alfa Laval on Wednesday reported higher second-quarter earnings and said it expected demand in the third quarter to be somewhat higher than in the second quarter.

Earnings before interest, tax, amortisation and other items (adjusted EBITA) were 1.87 billion crowns (180 million euros) in the past quarter compared to 1.70 billion crowns in the same period a year ago.

Net sales came in at 11.3 billion crowns, up 5%.

Both sales and adjusted EBITA reached record levels, Alfa Laval said, driven by a strong performance in the marine division.

However, order intake decreased by 20 per cent due to pumping systems and scrubbers, the group said.

The latter comments seemed to weigh on the shares, down 4.5% in Stockholm.
