Equinor: picks UK port for giant wind farm project

(CercleFinance.com) - The Port of Tyne in North East England will be the home for the world's biggest offshore wind farm, said Equinor and SSE Renewables, the two companies behind the project.

Construction of the wind farm - which is set to be located over 130km offshore - has begun under the leadership of Ireland's SSE Renewables, the developer of the operations phase.

Norway's state-backed oil company Equinor will then build the new operation and maintenance (O&M) base, and operate the wind farm for its expected duration of over 25 years.

When fully operational in 2023, the wind farm will be able to provide enough renewable electricity for over 4.5 million UK homes.
