Ahold Delhaize: US supermarket deal gets antitrust OK

(CercleFinance.com) - Ahold Delhaize has received antitrust clearance from the Federal Trade Commission to buy 62 US supermarkets from Southeastern Grocers.

The Dutch-based retailer said on Wednesday that the FTC granted early termination of the waiting period required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust law.

This means that Food Lion - its brand for the southeastern United States - will be allowed to expand its store network through the purchase of 62 BI-LO/Harveys stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

The stores will be converted to Food Lion stores, Ahold Delhaize said, with the company expecting to recruit over 4,650 employees for them.
