Ahold Delhaize: buys 62 stores in southeastern US

(CercleFinance.com) - Dutch-based retailer Ahold Delhaize said on Wednesday that it was purchasing 62 supermarkets in the southeast of the US from Southeastern Grocers, as part of its expansion strategy in the country.

The "BI-LO" and "Harveys" stores located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia will be converted to Food Lion stores, its second largest brand in the United States, the group said.

Food Lion, which is based in North Carolina, currently operates more than 1,000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states and employs more than 77,000 staff.

The deal also includes the acquisition of an additional distribution center in South Carolina.

Both acquisitions are currently expected to close in the first half of 2021, Ahold Delhaire said, while not specifying the financial terms of the deal.
