Unilever: new ambitions for plant-based meat alternatives
(CercleFinance.com) - Consumer-goods giant Unilever today announced a new annual global sales target of one billion euros from plant-based meat and dairy alternatives in the next five to seven years.
The Anglo-Dutch company said that growth will be driven by the roll-out of "The Vegetarian Butcher" - a brand of meat substitutes it acquired two years ago - as well as increasing vegan alternatives from brands such as Hellmann's mayonnaise and Magnum ice creams.
Unilever, which also makes Lipton tea, Ben & Jerry's ice creams and Knorr soups, has also committed to ensure 100% of its plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
