ArcelorMittal: new lime subsidiary with SigmaRoc

(CercleFinance.com) - ArcelorMittal announced on Monday that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the British building materials group SigmaRoc to create a new joint venture.


The subsidiary will be entirely dedicated to the production of lime, an additive used in the steel refining process, with the aim of producing some 900,000 tonnes of high quality lime per year, the steelmaker said.

The site will be built near the port of Dunkirk, not far from ArcelorMittal's steel mills, which are set to become its main client.

The facility, which will facilitate shorter transport times, will also be accompanied by a plan to recover heat from ArcelorMittal's furnaces and to use biofuels instead of the natural gas usually used in the process.
