ArcelorMittal: to cut production in Europe

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday morning, ArcelorMittal announced that it has decided to take additional measures to align its production levels in Europe with current market demand.

The group will therefore reduce primary steel production at its plants in Dunkirk, France, Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany, and Bremen (in the fourth quarter of this year, where a blast furnace stoppage for repair works will be extended). The group also announced that it has decided to extend the planned fourth-quarter shutdown of a blast furnace at its Asturias plant in Spain.

"This will be a temporary measure that will be reversed when market conditions improve. In the meantime, our employees remain our utmost priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure that the right social measures are in place to support them and their families during this difficult time," said Geert van Poelvoorde, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe.
